Avid Amiri has served a business practitioner and technologist in the internet segment for over 10 years and hold an MBA from Cornell University. He has consulted for a wide variety of clients and his skills are actively sought out for website appraisals and valuations. Mr. Amiri was formerly involved on an academic level as an Associate Graduate Professor at the Gore School of Business at Westminster College where he taught courses in entrepreneurship and ecommerce. On a professional level, his experience includes determining intrinsic values for web assets both in the traditional ecommerce space, as well as in the affiliate, subscription based, and Adsense markets. Mr. Amiri uses a combination of valuation techniques to identify the most accurate values for web related businesses, which include standard market approach based valuations as well as cost based valuations. He relies heavily on a standard market approach which determines the fair market value of an asset based on a group of peer assets or comparable sites. This is one of the most common valuation techniques and tends to be the most pervasive within the secondary markets. The market approach typically assesses both cash flows and gross revenues in order to come up with a basis for valuation. A standard industry multiple may be applied to these revenues and cash flows to determine value. Amiri analyzes how multiples may fluctuate on the basis of qualitative and quantitative metrics. These might include general industry trends, site specific performance (i.e. revenue growth and decline), inorganic versus organic traffic generation as well as a myriad of other factors. A cost based approach may be applied to younger assets, where the cost of the development serves as the basis of any valuation. Note, this valuation technique involves a survey or assessment of the cost of development for 2 or more web companies to produce a comparable asset in terms of coding, software, web design and optimization.
